# X (Twitter)

> Follow accounts and track posts on X

## Overview

X (formerly Twitter) sources allow you to track posts and threads from influential accounts in your niche. Reduce aggregates the most important tweets so you can stay current without constant timeline scrolling.

<Note>
  X/Twitter is available on both Free and Pro tiers. Free users can add up to **4 X sources**; Pro users can add up to **50 X sources**.
</Note>

## How It Works

When you add an X account as a source, Reduce:

1. **Fetches recent posts** from the account within your content window
2. **Extracts tweet content** including text and engagement metrics
3. **Prioritizes engagement** by surfacing high-performing tweets

<Note>
  Reduce only includes posts published within your newsletter's content window (e.g., last 7 days for weekly newsletters).
</Note>

## Adding an X Account

You can add X accounts using the username or profile URL:

### By Profile URL

```
https://twitter.com/elonmusk
https://x.com/naval
```

### By Username

```
@elonmusk
naval
```

<Tip>
  The `@` symbol is optional - Reduce handles both `@username` and `username` formats.
</Tip>

## What Content Is Fetched

Reduce captures the following from each post:

* **Tweet text** - Full text content (up to 280 characters, or longer for Premium users)
* **Publish date** - When the tweet was posted
* **Engagement metrics** - Likes, retweets, and replies count
* **Author info** - Username and display name
* **Tweet URL** - Direct link to the post

<Note>
  Retweets are excluded by default to focus on original content from the accounts you follow.
</Note>

## Content Freshness

X sources are checked:

* **Before each delivery** according to your newsletter's schedule
* **Within your content window** - only posts newer than your lookback period are included

For example, if you have a daily newsletter with a 24-hour content window, Reduce fetches tweets from the past day.

## Content Quality Tips

<Tip>
  Review an account's last 20 tweets before adding it. If most tweets would interest your audience, it's a good fit.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  Avoid accounts that tweet too frequently (50+ times per day) unless you're running a high-frequency daily newsletter. They can overwhelm your digest.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  Combine X sources with YouTube and Reddit for multi-platform coverage of your niche.
</Tip>

## Source Limits

<Note>
  Free users can add up to **4 X sources** per newsletter. Pro users can add up to **50 X sources** per newsletter. These limits are separate from the YouTube/Reddit/other source limits (20 on Free, 100 on Pro).
</Note>

## Upgrading for More X Sources

If you need more than 4 X sources, [upgrade to Pro](/quickstart#free-vs-pro) to unlock up to 50 X sources per newsletter, along with RSS, Podcasts, Email Inbox, custom prompts, and flexible delivery schedules.
